First public meeting of the Alliance for Science a success!!!!

Last night was the first public gathering for the newly formed Alliance for Science. And let me say it was a success! On the agenda: a quick viewing of the DoverC.A.R.E.S. video put out by the folks in Dover, PA, followed by a creationism/evolution seminar. Turn-out was approximately 115 new faces! I took a picture of the registration/book sale table early on:

I also tried to get a shot of the crowd during the talk, unfortunately I could only get the front half of the auditorium and the stage to fit in the frame simultaneously:

So anyway, the talk. We decided to kick off by pulling out the Big Guns; inviting members of the general public to a talk hosted by none other than Dr. Eugenie Scott of the National Center for Science Education. Dr. Scott is a leading proponent for evolution education in public schools. She did a bang-up job informing the attendees about the nature of the Intelligent Design Creationism movement, and dispelling misconceptions about the theory of evolution.

We also had a media crew there shooting video of the talk.

Hopefully, they will be able to get Eugenie's talk up on the Alliance for Science website for public viewing, once we have that up-and-running.

So all and all, a great night for the Alliance for Science. We got new people, we got the message out, and Dr. Scott sold an entire box of her book (one of which I forced her to autograph for me.) Stay tuned for more details on the organization!

Bonus shot: Eugenie in repose.
